KABUL - Lawmakers and politicians on Sunday welcomed the return of Hebz-i-Islami Afghanistan leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar and called on other insurgent groups to reconcile with the government.
Mesharano Jirga or Senate deputy chairman Mohammad Asif Seddiqui welcomed Hekmatyar’s return and said: “We want the Taliban to renounce violence and join the reconciliation process. The current conflict is an intelligence warfare and you should stand by Afghan forces in this war.”
Maulvi Muhiuddin Munsif, a lawmaker from Kapisa province, said Hekmatyar’s return opened the door to reconciliation for other armed groups who wanted to join the peace process.
Abdullah Qarlaq, a lawmaker from Kunduz province, also welcomed Hekmatyar’s arrival.
Also Anwarul Haq Ahadi, head the Jabha-i-Nawin Melli (JNM) welcomed the emergence of Hekmatyar from decades in hiding and praised his decision to the join peace process.
The Mahaz-i-Melli party also supported the emergence of Gulbadin Hekmatyar and asked other armed groups to follow suit. (Pajhwok)
