KABUL - Dr. Hameedullah Mohib, Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United States, claimed on Friday the Afghan Taliban could not fight without support from Pakistan.
Addressing a conference the Afghanistan’s security at the Washington-based Institute of World Politics, he said it was time to protect the basic values of civilization, as social development was under threat.
Mohib, referring to Afghan-US relations, said sustained assistance and cooperation from Washington was important not only for the Afghans, but also crucial for the protection of democracy in the region.
The Taliban had been weakened considerably, and if not supported by neighbouring Pakistan, they had no fighting strength, he said, insisting the rebels were unable to fight against Afghan forces.
The ambassador also met Afghanistan Combined Security Transition Command (ACSTC) Chief Maj. Gen. Richard Kaiser, the embassy said in a statement. They discussed the problems and development of the Afghan security sector.
Kaiser praised the security forces and assured them, especially the Afghan Air Force, of close coordination and cooperation. Mohib urged the official to continue cooperating on strengthening the air force. (Pajhwok)
