KABUL - Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani is to attend an international conference on terrorist group Daesh or Islamic State (IS) in late March in the United States of America, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Wednesday.
A MoFA statement issued here said Rabbani and the US charge de affairs, Dennis Walter Hearne, discussed the upcoming conference during a meeting in Kabul. The conference will be held in Washington DC.
Despite under pressure from Afghan security forces and Taliban rivals, Daesh militants have been able to pose a huge security threat to Afghanistan and other parts of the world.
The group recently claimed responsibility for a complex attack on a military hospital in Kabul in which 50 people were killed and over 100 wounded.
Foreign forces in Afghanistan acknowledge hundreds of Daesh rebels exist in eastern part of the country, though many had been eliminated in airstrikes and offensives. (Pajhwok)
