PESHAWAR - Amid ongoing tension with Pakistan, senior Afghan officials have opted for skipping the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit in Islamabad.
President Ashraf Ghani, Chief Executive Dr, Abdullah and Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani will not attend the meeting on regional issues, scheduled for March 1.
Instead Ambassador Dr Omar Zakhilwal would be attending, Pakistan said on Monday at the conclusion of a meeting of senior officials from the 10 participating countries.
Heads of state and government of all other countries, except Uzbekistan, have confirmed participation in the summit, is aiming at promoting connectivity and cooperation in energy, infrastructure, transport and trade sectors.
After a string of high-casualty attacks across the country, Islamabad closed border crossings in protest against Kabul’s failure to take action against terrorist groups living on Afghanistan’s soil. (Pajhwok)
