KABUL - Pugwash, a Canada-based organisation, on Wednesday said it had suggested some points for discussion in possible peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
In a statement, the organisation said the suggestion was in a proposal format that was updated and modified according to various views received from different sources the statement said.
“This is a proposal that we submitted for consideration to the government, the Taliban and more generally to the Afghan public,” the Pugwash statement added.
The proposal was particularly dispatched to the High Peace Council (HPC), to the Afghan National Security Council (NSC), to the Taliban political commission in Doha, the organisation said.
It added the blue-print was presented during the last meeting on December 13 in Kabul and shared with various personalities in Afghanistan, diplomatic missions in the country and the Taliban movement..
Many issues, of course, needed to be specified and further discussed, the statement said, adding comments, suggestions and advice were more than welcome.
Pugwash is a nongovernmental organisation, which can only propose ideas and recommendations; it cannot organise negotiations.
Pugwash said it was aware of the fact that the desire for reaching a peace agreement was universally shared by the Afghan public opinion. Peace was an extremely urgent need, it concluded. (Pajhwok)
