KABUL - Several Wolesi Jirga members on Monday claimed the government had failed to ensured security, calling for a review of the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the United States.
Speaker Abdur Rauf Ibrahimi expressed concern over the worsening security situation, saying ensuring security for the nation was an integral part of the government’s core responsibilities.
However, he regretted the government’s failure to protect the citizen and Afghanistan’s territory. The house would take a decision on differences between the government leaders during an extraordinary session, he said.
Samiullah Samim, an MP from Farah province, stressed the removal of differences between the government leaders and said: “The parliament should intervene to heal the rifts, which may bust the moral of our security forces.”
Maulvi Abdul Rahman Rahmani, a lawmaker from Balkh province, criticised the US for the increasing insecurity in Afghanistan. “BSA with the US should be reviewed, because the security situation in our country has worsened after the signing of the agreement, which has failed to mitigate the pains of Afghans.”
A representative from Uruzgan province, Obaidullah Barakzai, said: “The key to peace in Afghanistan is with America. Those who came here with US support never think about Afghans; the people voted for us to make decisions on the presence of America in our country.”
A day earlier, the Meshrano Jirga (Senate) condemned a recent US airstrike that killed more than 30 civilians and injured 20 others in northern Kunduz province and demanded the scrapping of BSA. (Pajhwok)
