Selection Committee Blasted for Not Revealing Applicants Names

KABUL - A number of electoral watchdog organizations on Monday criticized the electoral commission’s selection committee for not making public the names of the applicants for the electoral commissions.
The watchdog organizations said the committee is acting in contravention of the law on access to information.
"This is questionable that why has the list of names of all the applicants not been announced. This questions the activities of the selection committee," said Mohammad Naeem Ayubzada, head of the Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA).
"We expected that the selection committee carry out its activities according to the law and without any problem," said Habiburrahman Nang, member of the Afghanistan Civil Society Elections Network (ACSEN).
Meanwhile, the selection committee said all details of applicants for election commissions will be made public once their processes are complete.
"The selection committee will announce the names of the applicants after it completes its work," said Yusuf Rasheed, head of the commission.
According to reports, the selection committee will send the list of nominees to President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday.
The Presidential Palace says the president will assign a team to select the members of the electoral commissions from the list. (Tolonews)
