KABUL - The Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah's office on Sunday said the National Unity Government (NUG) leaders have met with each other several times in recent days but they have not resolved their disagreements over a few matters.
"Overall, a number of meetings were held between the NUG leaders before and after the Brussels Summit. They [the two leaders] have agreed over a number of disagreements, but a number of issues still need to be discussed," said Jawed Faisal, deputy spokesman for the CEO.
Meanwhile, Bashir Ahmad Tayanj, a spokesman for Junbishe Milli (National Islamic Movement) Party, said the tension between President Ashraf Ghani and the First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum has also not yet ended.
"Even 10 percent of our demands have not been addressed. We wanted our demands addressed because we are a party of the system and we are the makers of the new system," he said.
According to reports, efforts made by a number of political parties to end the rift between the NUG leaders have also not yet had positive results.
"Fortunately, there was an interest and insistence on all sectors, including the existence of a real national government, with a wide base and a government that uses all capacities to improve Afghanistan. I think this will create further hope among the people," said Massoud Treshtwal, a spokesman for the Council of Protection and Stability of Afghanistan.
"The Afghan people hope that the rift should be resolved in the near future," said Basir Abbas, CEO of the Supreme Council of Jihadi and National Parties.
However, the president's spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri did not provide a clear answer in this respect.
He said: "Different councils which are in Afghanistan can come and discuss disagreements in ideals." (Tolonews)
