KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday directed the defense and security organs to be careful in their operations in order to prevent civilian casualties.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the president had appointed a delegation to investigate the alleged killing of civilians in airstrikes of Afghan and NATO forces in northern Kunduz province.
The civilian casualties occurred as a result of Afghan and US forces airstrikes in Pul Alchin and Puz Kandahari areas of Kunduz.
The Presidential Palace said the Afghans’ enemies while fighting against Afghan forces used civilian houses in Puz Kandahari area as their bastions which resulted in killing and injuring of several innocent people.
The statement said the president was deeply saddened over the incident and directed the Afghan forces to be very careful in their operations and avoid civilian casualties.
Ghani appointed a delegation to investigate the incident and find those involved so they could be brought to justice. However, the statement has no further details about the delegation.
The president also ordered all civil and military officials of Kunduz to assist the affected families and use all emergency resources for treatment of those wounded in the incident. (Pajhwok)
