KABUL - As Afghans continue to grapple with mounting security threats, members of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) on Monday raised questions over government's war management strategy on the battlefields.
The lawmakers said the security leadership has not enough potential to lead the forces in their campaign against militants.
They vowed to take harsh stance against the leadership of security agencies over their failure to curb scale of violence.
"The Afghan army is coping with problems including our police. Today only 67 percent of the army is operational which means another 43 percent is not on duty," said Arif Rahmani, an MP.
"Only five camps are now operational in Uruzgan where they fight the Taliban and there is no police," another MP, Obaidullah Barekzai, said.
"Routes connected to three districts in Paktika have been ‎closed for the past nine years; the is no way to Afghanistan nor to Pakistan. Taliban in association with Pakistani militia launched a massive offensive on Warmi district three days ago," said Mahmoud Sulaimankhail, an MP from Paktika.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers decided to summon security officials in the near future to question them about the war management.
"We should get passed our personal interests and act upon our responsibilities and use our authorities, which have been defined by the law. If we had acted upon it, today Afghanistan would not have faced such a situation," said MP Saleh Mohammad Saleh.
"War is ongoing in every province and district of the country, but when they [security officials] are invited, they fail to provide us with a convincing response. The sons of this soil are martyred in the trenches daily, but they [security officials] talk about the issues which we cannot discuss right now," said Iqbal Safi, an MP from Kapisa.
"This time, we want clear answers to our questions so that we can improve the security situation in the country," the Wolesi Jirga speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said.
In addition, the lawmakers threw strong criticism over the ongoing rift between the government leaders.
They asked the two leaders to resolve their disputes and avoid pushing the country into further crisis.(Tolonews)
