KABUL - Shahussain Murtazawi, deputy spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, said on Saturday that the Afghan people and government have lost more than 2 billion Afs due to the ongoing war in the past two months.
Murtazawi said hidden and financial repercussions of war should be highlighted.
"With the closure of every school, thousands of children have been deprived of their primary right. With the closure of every medical center, thousands of people have lost access to health services. One thing that never is considered, is the hidden dimension of terrorists' war in the country," Murtazawi said.
Government statistics show that in the past two months, nearly 300 schools, 41 medical centers and more than 7,000 houses and shops have been burned by insurgents and 50 mosques and 170 bridges have been destroyed and more than 100 kilometers of road has been destroyed due to roadside mines.
Murtazawi said recently Taliban increased attacks on non-military centers and mostly targeted provincial capitals.‎
"Killing civilians, destroying public facilities and other destructive activities has been carried out by Taliban," he said.
In the past two months, eleven provinces in the country witnessed war.
Civilian killings in Ghor province also raised serious concerns.
Analysts believe that the main reason behind the increase of insurgent activities is that there are more insurgents coming in from Pakistan to Afghanistan.
"The Taliban or other terrorist groups destroy public facilities, bridges and roads to incur more expenses for government. They also want to confront people and government by carrying out destructive activities," said Mohammad Aref Rahmani, an MP.
"Taliban will continue their destructive activities. We have a government that has security forces, it is too shameful that security forces kneel before a few insurgents and say they have destroyed this and that," said Sayed Nasrullah Kashani, a civil society activist.
Statistics show that 203 retainer walls, four government buildings and other structures in parts of eleven provinces have been damaged and that the cost of repairing these will total more than $2
