Dozens of Rebels Suffer  Casualties as Attack on Warmami District Repulsed

SHARAN - Local officials on Saturday said Taliban’s attack on Warmami district of southern Paktika province was repulsed, claiming several militants were killed in counterattack.
Deputy provincial police chief, Col. Abdul Raouf Masood told Pajhwok Afghan News that hundreds of insurgents stormed security posts in Warmami district late on Friday.
He said around 90 militants suffered casualties during Afghan forces’ retaliatory attack. However, he had no details about the exact figures of casualties. But added 30 bodies of the rebels were laid on the incident scene.
However, the Taliban spokesman, Qari Zabihullah Mujahid rejected security forces’ claims and said they have captured three check posts and killed eight and wounded five policemen in the attack.
Mujahid said clash in Warmami district was still underway.
Warmami district is located 95 kilometers east of Sharan city, the provincial capital. It is road to Sharan has been blocked from the past one year. (Pajhwok)
