JALALABAD - Civil society members have underlined the need for assistance to the displaced and refugees all across Afghanistan, especially in eastern Nangarhar province.
At a press conference in Jalalabad, they said the recently displaced people from Pachiragam to the provincial capital were in urgent need of emergency aid.
Civil society leader and human rights activist Dr. Niamatullah Hamdard deplored the refugees and displaced people were in a pitiable situation and.
Hamdard said based on information from the refugees department, 130,000 individuals have returned to Afghanistan and most of them have settled in Nangarhar. Thousands of families displaced by clashes have also settled in Jalalabad.
Abdul Latif Mal Shinwari told reporters the government must solve the problems of the displaced people. He regretted the refugees and the displaced people were in serious problems.
Eng. Noor Afzal Musleh, representative of the Momand tribe, called for creating employment opportunities to the refugees.
A young member of civil society, Sebghatullah Majidi who is a resident of Pachiragam, said18,000 families had been displaced from the districtto Jalalabad. The refugees and displaced people are in need of emergency aid, because every displaced family has serious problems.
The civil society leaders also issued a resolution, saying the needed cash assistance from the government and NGOs to evolve a plan to solve the problems of refugees and displaced families.
The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, said Governor Gulab Mangal had ordered emergency assistance to the refugees and the displaced families on his first working day. He added aid would be distributed to the displaced in the afternoon. (Pajhwok)
