TIRINKOT - Taliban militants have surrounded the Chora district centre in central Uruzgan province and a fierce clash is ongoing, officials said on Saturday.
Dost Mohammad Nayab, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked the district’s building from several directions at round 10:30am this morning and a fierce clash was ongoing.
He said the Taliban attempted to enter the district’s bazaar but faced with stiff resistance from security forces.
Some other sources said a number of security posts near the district centre had been captured by Taliban militants.
The district police chief, Aka, also confirmed the clashes but did not provide more information.
