50 Soldiers Killed, as Many Missing in Helmand: Officials

LASHKARGAH - Helmand governor Hayatullah Hayat on Sunday said nearly 50 soldiers have been killed and as many have gone missing in conflicts in the province over the past two weeks.
"Initial investigations indicate that at least 50 security force members were killed, few others wounded and nearly 50 of them have disappeared," Hayat said.
He stated that the security forces continue their offensives against insurgents in parts of the province.
"Security forces have launched several military operations on Sunday night in Lashkargah [city] where over 88 militants were killed and many villages were cleared of Taliban," he added.
Meanwhile, a number of Lashkargah residents said they are tired of insecurity and conflicts and that they want an end to the crisis.
"People have suffered a lot. Their homes have been destroyed, even they have lost their families and friends," said Ali Reza, a resident of Lashkargah city. (Tolonews)
