KABUL - Renowned jihadi leader Prof. Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf on Friday urged all Afghans to shun tribal and linguistic biases in the supreme national interest,
Addressing a ceremony marking the 5th assassination anniversary of then president Burhanuddin Rabbani in Kabul, Sayyaf underlined the need for respecting jihadi figures.
Rabbani, also ex-chairman of the High Peace Council, was killed in a bomb attack inside his Kabul residence by a militant posing as a Taliban emissary with a reconciliation message.
“One who equates a Mujahid (holy warrior) with a non-mujahid violates Allah’s command. The two can never be treated as equal,” remarked Sayyaf, a noted religious scholar.
Some elements equated mujahideen with the Taliban and terrorists, he deplored, slamming the attitude as a serious mistake.
“We aren’t violators of Allah’s orders; we seek independence. But some individuals brazenly brand mujahideen as devious and schemers,” alleged the Da’awat-i-Islami Afghanistan leader.
He called on the government to pay greater attention to strengthening Afghan security forces, and ensure strong national support to them. He hailed the sacrifices of Afghan forces as unprecedented in the country’s history.
“Our valiant forces are motivated, not only by a deep sense of patriotism and financial attraction, but by a strong commitment to their beliefs and religion, the Wolesi Jirga member observed,
A graduate from the Al-Azhar University, he said the country was witnessing sharp divisions, warning that disunity would damage Pakhtuns, Tajiks, Uzbeks and Harzaras alike. (Pajhwok)
