KABUL - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday called drug smuggling the main financial source of terrorism in Afghanistan.
The national unity government was determined to eliminate the menace of drug trafficking from the country, the CEO said in a statement from office.
Abdullah expressed the view during a meeting with delegates from the Russian Federation, Iran and Tajikistan. The delegates are here to attend a five-nation meeting on counter-narcotics.
The CEO thanked the delegation for attending the meeting and expressed his satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the meeting.
Abdullah said drug trafficking threatened the security and stability of the region and stressed joint efforts to eradicate the transfer, cultivation and production of the illicit substances in the region.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to combat drug trafficking, a challenge that could be met through collective efforts.
The delegates assured the CEO of support in the fight against drugs and thanked the Afghan government for organising the meeting successfully. (Pajhwok)
