Road to Peace in Region Lies Thru Afghanistan: Gen. Raheel

PESHAWAR - The Pakistan army chief has offered Afghanistan stout support for combating the menace of terrorism, saying peace in the neighbouring country is vital to regional stability.
Gen. Raheel Sharif held out the assurance at a day-long conference organised by the commander of US CENTCOM. Military chiefs from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan attended the event.
He assured participants of unlimited support, particularly Afghanistan, acknowledging the route to a peaceful and prosperous region ran through a stable Afghanistan, “which is achievable through a coordinated approach”.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the participants expressed their desire to improve multilateral military cooperation amongst their countries to coherently meet emerging security challenges.
Gen. Raheel Sharif claimed Islamabad’s efforts had turned the tide against terrorism. Pakistan was the biggest victim of the evil both in terms of human lives and finance. (Pajhwok)
