Taliban Attack Districts in Faryab, Suffer Heavy Casualties: Officials

KABUL - Taliban insurgents attacked four districts of northern Faryab provinces early Monday morning but suffered heavy casualties, local officials said.
The attack took place about 2am local time after dozens of Taliban insurgents attacked Khaja Subzposh, Ghormach, Almar and Pashtonkot districts of the province and clashed with security forces, provincial police chief, Gen. Mohammad Nabi Elham said.
"The Taliban suffered heavy casualties in Khaja Subezposh and they were defeated by security forces," Elham said.
"The attack happened after about 500 Taliban insurgents stormed (the villages)," he said.
But the residents of Khaja Subzposh said that 15 Talibs and three residents who were supporting the security forces in fighting the insurgents were killed and five other residents were injured.
The residents claim that the Taliban also abducted an 11-year-old boy and a nine year-old girl.
However, the Taliban have not yet commented on either the clash or the alleged abduction. (Tolonews)
