KABUL - The High Peace Council (HPC) on Saturday said all technical issues in the peace deal with the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) had been resolved and there was no obstacle left.
Mohammad Ismail Qasimyar, international affairs advisor to HPC, told Pajhwok Afghan News all technical problems in the peace accord with HIA had been resolved and the pact was ready for signing.
He said a fair peace pact was in the interest of Afghans, saying:“Fortunately, there is no obstacles to the process of negotiations with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar-led HIA.”
Without giving any timeframe for signing of the deal, he said work on it was still ongoing and the accord would be inked in the near future.
However, a number of Wolesi Jirga members expressed concern at differences over the the deal. They said all the problems regarding the process should be removed and the deal signed as soon as possible.
Nazir Ahmad Ahmadzai, representing the nomadic Kuchi community in the lower house, said differences over the peace process with HIA should be resolved.
Peace has been a longstanding demand of the nation, but some specific figures in the government obstruct an accord with the Gulbadin Hikmatyar-led party, according to him.
Mirbat Khan Mangal, a legislator from Paktia province, also said the peace deal should no longer be delayed and any differences on the issue should be sorted out immediately.
But a lawmaker from Kandahar province, Mohammad Naim Lalai Hamidzai, said the agreement with HIA had been finalised and would be signed in a day or two. He hoped the country would witness stability after the peace agreement was signed.
An official, wishing not to be named, confided to Pajhwok that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah was opposed to some parts of the agreement.
On the first day of Eidul Adha, President Ashraf Ghani had said he would not accept any opposition to the deal because both sides had almost reached a full agreement. (Pajhwok)
