PESHAWAR - The Pakistan army chief has assured President Ashraf Ghani of all possible cooperation in bringing the American University of Afghanistan attackers to justice, the military said.
In a telephone conversation with Ghani late on Thursday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the elite university in Kabul, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said
Pakistan’s soil would never be allowed to be used for any type of terrorism in Afghanistan, the general promised, saying: “Afghan authorities have shared 3 mobile telephone numbers, allegedly used during the attack.”
Based on the Afghan cell numbers provided by Kabul, the Pakistan Army carried out a combing operation in suspected area close to the border to verify the presence of miscreants there.
“Our evaluation of the evidence and the outcome of combing operation so far have shown that all Afghan SIMs, used during the attack, were from a network owned and operated by an Afghan company whose spillover signals affect some areas along the border.”
Gen. Sharif said: “The outcome of the operation has been shared with Afghan
authorities. Further technical evaluation of the cell numbers (all Afghan) is being carried out.”
President Ghani called Gen Sharif to ask Pakistan for action against the attackers’ accomplices. The conversation took place as US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson, Special Assistant to the US President Dr. Peter Lavoy and Commander of Resolute Support Mission Gen John Nicholson visited Islamabad.(Pajhwok)
