KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani has hit back at his Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah over his recent remarks that he, Ghani, is not taking solid steps to address certain national issues, saying he does not believe those who do not believe him.
Speaking to a gathering of Afghan youths on Friday, the president said that those who support corrupt elements in fact try to obscure the government's reform agendas.
‎"Unfortunately, statements made by Mr. Abdullah Abdullah yesterday were in contradiction to the spirit and morale of the governance, because governance is based on principles and legal procedures and in line with that actions are taken. National unity government will move ahead as a collection, serious discussions will be held on his remarks in the near future," said presidential spokesman Haroon Chakhansuri.
In a press release issued by the presidential palace on Friday, Abdullah Abdullah has not been mentioned as the CEO.
Meanwhile, a number of political figures have warned that a confrontation between the leaders of the national unity government will push the nation towards a crisis.
Abdullah Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government (NUG) Thursday criticized President Ashraf Ghani over what he called the president's disinterest in addressing national issues including the electoral reform agenda and rolling out digital national identity cards to the people of Afghanistan.
"If a person does not have the courage for a discussion, then he is not qualified for a chairmanship, the one who has not the patience of hearing someone, he is not qualified for chairmanship (presidency) , said Abdullah on Thursday.

Abdullah's remarks over Ghani was rare since the officials agreed on the formation of national unity government following 2014 controversial elections.(Tolonews)
