KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Monday appointed a delegation to conduct a thoroughgoing investigation into the attack on a protest demonstration in the capital earlier in the week.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said Ghani had tasked the team with looking into the nature of the deadly attack and sharing its findings with him as soon as possible.
The team comprises Attorney-GeneralMohammad Farid Hamidi, senior presidential advisorDr. Abbas Basir, Nasrullah Stanikzai, lawmaker Shah Gul Rezayee and Deputy Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Abdur Rahman Rahman.
Other members of the team are Defence Ministry intelligence chief Hilaluddin Hilal, Chief of Army Staff Murad Ali Murad, Cabinet Secretary Nasrullah Arsalayee, deputy intelligence head Abdul Matin Baig and others.
On Saturday, 80 people were killed and 231 others injured in two suicide attacks on a protest demonstration in Deh Mazang area. The Islamic State (IS) or Daesh militant group claimed responsibility for the assault.
