PESHAWAR - Pledging continued support for the Afghan process, Pakistan has voiced its disappointment with President Ashraf Ghani’s recent hostile remarks at the Warsaw Summit.
In Warsaw, Ghani accused Pakistan of continuing to make a distinction between good and bad Taliban. “Our regional initiatives with neighbours are beginning to yield significant cooperative dividends.”
However, he claimed, Pakistan remained an exception. Despite clear commitments to a quadrilateral peace process, Pakistan stuck to its policy of distinction between good and bad terrorists, Ghani alleged.
In response, the Foreign Office said: “Since we have a genuine interest in seeing stability in Afghanistan, Pakistan would continue to make every effort to help bring peace to the neighbour.”
In a late-night rejoinder, the ministry said it was unfortunate that Afghan leaders continued to make hostile statements against Pakistan and blame it for all failures in Afghanistan.
Islamabad also called for cooperation in defeating terrorism, urging Kabul to end the blame game. “We also expect cooperation from the Afghan government in our fight against terrorism…”
The ministry stressed effective border management and denial of sanctuaries to leaders of the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. “The need of the hour is close cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.(Pajhwok)
