Turn Kot into Graveyard for IS, Atmar Tells Nangarhar Leaders

KABUL - National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar on Monday directed the political and military leaders of eastern Nangarhar province to subdue threat posed by the Islamic State group with full force.
Atmar issued the directives during a video conference with political and military leaders and tribal elders of Nangarhar province to discuss the situation in the Kot district.
A statement from the National Security Council said Wolesi Jirga members from Nangarhar Syed Ikram, Asmat Shinwari and from Kabul Shinkai Karokhel and presidential advisor on youth affairs Malalai Shinwari were also present on the occasion.
In Nangarhar, the video conference was attended by Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi, the 201 Selab Military commander, the police chief, the National Directorate of Security head for Nangarhar and tribal elders.
Atmar directed the Nangarhar political and military leaders to bring in use all available resources in doing away with activities of the Islamic State terrorist group and its roots.
The national security advisor shared his grief with Kot tribal elders over the killing of some civilians by the Daesh group and said their sacrifices would be remembered in the history of preserving Afghanistan’s independence.
Hanif Atmar many times repeated the president’s directives: “Turn Kot into a graveyard for Daesh and take a historic revenge for the martyred countrymen.”
Hundreds of Daesh gunmen stormed various parts of Kot district on Thursday night, causing casualties to security forces and civilians besides torching dozens of civilian homes.
Dozens of Daesh fighters were killed and wounded after security forces launched an operation against them in the troubled district.(Pajhwok)
