Afghanistan Security Situation May Deteriorate in Summer

MOSCOW - Russian Special Presidential Envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said that there is no prospect of peace negotiations between the conflicting sides in Afghanistan in near future.
Russia does not rule out that the situation with violence in Afghanistan may seriously deteriorate with the onset of summer, Russian Special Presidential Envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said Thursday.
“With the onset of summer, a deterioration of the situation is possible,” Kabulov told RIA Novosti, adding that there is no prospect of peace negotiations between the conflicting sides in near future.
Afghanistan is experiencing significant political, social and security-related instability, as radical extremist organizations, including Taliban, continue to stage attacks against civilian and state targets.
In March, the Afghan government and the Taliban were expected to have direct peace talks but the plan failed. (Sputnik)
