KABUL - Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah on Monday deplored that some politicians were unaware of the importance and tenure of the deal on the national unity government.
Addressing the Council of Ministers, Abdullah said during US Foreign Secretary John Kerry’s flying visit to Kabul, bilateral issues and continued cooperation were discussed.
He added Kerry reiterated US support for the incumbent government, its security forces, rehabilitation, as well as good governance and development initiatives. Global support remained critical to the government’s survival.
“Comments of some political figures who are yet to act as an opposition regarding the government’s tenure are surprising,” the CEO remarked, calling the ruling coalition’s creation an important event in Afghanistan’s history and its political stability.
Kerry’s observations about the government’s tenure were new for some politicians, he noted. “I hoped some people, who desire political stability in the country and are playing their role in this regard, should have studied the unity government accord.”
On Sunday, the secretary of state said the Afghan government would complete its five-year constitutional term as the political deal he had brokered between the coalition partners in September 2014 had no specific expiry date.
Speaking at a joint news conference with President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul, Kerry dismissed assumptions that the unity government’s tenure would end in September this year. (Pajhwok)
