KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Monday awarded the bravery medal of Ghazi Mohammad Ayub Khan to the families of Col. Hikmatullah and Brig. Gen. Khan Agha.
Col. Hikmatullah was police chief of the Greshk district of southern Helmand province when he killed last year in a roadside bombing in. He was the son of a public representative in Wolesi Jirga, Mualim Mirwali Khan.
Brig. Gen. Khan Agha was deputy civilian head in the 205th Atal Military Corps in southern Kandahar province. He was killed on March 24, 2016 as a result of an insurgent attack in Dand-i-Patan district of Kandahar.
During a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, the deputy head of Administrative Affairs Office, Naimaullah Sair, read out presidential decrees awarding the bravery medals of Ghazni Mohammad Ayub Khan to the two families.
Both Habibullah Amin and Abdul Wali Amin on behalf of the families of the martyrs thanked the president for his special attention.
They announced their support for government programmes regarding peace, reforms and anti-corruption efforts, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
President Ghani called Hikmatullah and Khan Agha as the brave sons of the country and said they would always be remembered.
He also thanked their families and elders of Kandahar and Helmand for growing up brave children of the soil. “Kandahar is the political heart of Afghanistan and without peace in the province, there would be no peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
The president once against prayed for the departed souls of the martyrs and wished a chosen place for them in the Heaven and patience for their families.
The president also asked elders of Kandahar to be united for peace and stability in the country. (Pajhwok)
