President Suspends Helmand, Nuristan Governors: Source

KABUL - The governors of southern Helmand and eastern Nuristan provinces have been suspended, but both the governors said they were unaware of the decision.
A source close to the government told Pajhwok Afghan News that President Ashraf Ghani had suspended Helmand Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi and Nuristan governor Hafiz Abdul Qayum due to their weak management.
The communications and information technology, education, information and culture and higher education directors would also be suspended due to their poor performance, the source said.
However, Nuristan governor Hafiz Abdul Qayum said “I don’t know about the decision and no one has so far informed me.”
Likewise, Helmand governor Rahimi said he did not know about the decision and no one had so far talked to him in this regard.
However, the president’s special representative for security in Helmand, Abdul Jabar Qahraman, confirmed Rahimi had been laid off.
“Only the governor has been laid off and no other officials are suspended. The situation is getting improved,” he said. (Pajhwok)
