Corruption Turned Into a Culture in Kabul: Ghani

KABUL - While concerning over the poor performance of Kabul municipality, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Monday said corruption and injustice have turned in to a culture in Kabul.
During a meeting with members of parliament and provincial council of Kabul, Ghani said the current municipality system was unacceptable and it needed fundamental changes, a statement from Presidential Palace said.
The government decided to turn the unplanned areas into planned ones in Kabul to prevent land grabbing issue in the future, Ghani said in the statement.
Ghani criticized the poor performance of Kabul municipality and a number of other departments that lacked the capacity to properly utilize their budgets.
About people’s role in the city management, he said Kabul was a common home for all its residents, so the citizens’ problems could not be resolved without their cooperation.
Pointing to the reconstruction of DarulAman Palace, he said the government had a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of old Kabul City.
Ghani asked public representatives to provide their suggestions for resolving Kabul municipality problems.
“We begin series of our meetings with Kabul people’s representatives, we will provide proper solutions to the current issues after hearing suggestions of the representatives,” he assured participants of the meeting.
Regarding Kabul cleanness Ghani said, “We are taking actions for a permanent garbage management in Kabul City; we have talked with several private companies for resolving the issue.” (Pajhwok)
