KABUL - Taliban recently said they are not going to take part in the ongoing peace process for specific reasons but the Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai has said that this is a “tactical stance” of the group.
“We consider the stance adopted by Taliban as a tactical stance. This is not their core stance,” Khalil Karzai said in a meeting with United Kingdom Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond on Monday evening.
Khalil Karzai had earlier said that Taliban are willing to join the peace process.
“With the support of international community, particularly regional countries these quests will lead to lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan,” he added in the meeting with Hammond.
Direct talks with Taliban were expected to be at the end of February or first week of March but after Taliban rejected their participation, the government announced that the dialogues have been delayed.
Javid Faisal, deputy spokesman for Chief Executive Officer said the talks will likely start with some delays, despite the government was fully prepared for the talks.
He added that members of the Quadrilateral coordination Group (QCG) are busy to organize the direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban group as soon as possible. (KP)
