Rauf Inami Reelected as Wolesi Jirga Secretary

KABUL - The Wolesi Jirga or lower house on Monday held its administrative board elections, re-electing Abdul Rauf Inami as secretary, with candidates for speaker and his deputies falling short of the required threshold.
A dozen lawmakers vied for four positions in the lower house’s administrative board.
Secretary
Abdul Rauf Inami and Farida Hamidi nominated themselves for the secretary slot which went to Inami who obtained 117 votes from the 220 lawmakers present.
First Deputy Speaker
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said lawmakers Haji Zahir Qadir and Mirwais Yasini from Nangrahar, Abdul Hafiz Mansour and Abdul Qadir Zazai Watandost from Kabul contested for the post of first deputy speaker, but none secured the 50+1 threshold.
Second Deputy Speaker
Ibrahimi said Mohammad Nazir Ahmadzai, a representative of Kochi tribe, Abdul Rahman Rahmani, a lawmaker form Balkh and Abdul Qayyum Sajadi from Ghanzi vied for the post of deputy speakers. Ahmadzai secured 85 votes and Sjadi 69 votes which were not enough to be declared as winners.
Deputy Secretary:
The speaker said Irfanullah Irfan, a lawmaker from Kabul, Wazma Safi form Kunduz and Rubaba Parwani from Parwan failed to get enough votes to earn them the post of deputy secretary.
He said the second round of elections on the said positions would take place today (Tuesday). (Pajhwok)
