Years of Efforts Fail to Achieve Peace: Ibrahimi

KABUL - The Wolesi Jirga speaker on Sunday expressed his concern over the deteriorated security situation in the country, saying despite 10 years of efforts, no progress in achieving peace could be made.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of parliament’s sixth constitutional year, Abdur Rauf Ibrahimi said Afghanistan’s security situation had worsted compared to the past.
“The Afghan people are more pain than they were in the past years. Security challenges have increased and families displaced by the ongoing violence are suffering from hard living conditions,” he said.
Ibrahimi said the country’s economy was collapsing and poverty and capital flight was on the rise by each passing day, as well as a large number of Afghans were leaving country due to joblessness and insecurity.
“Ambiguity still surrounds the fate of Wolesi Jirga and district council elections and the national unity government did not come up to our expectations,” he added.
About peace talks, Ibrahimi said despite several meetings in the past 10 years in this regard, but the prospect of peace remained remote.(Pajhwok)
