JALALABAD - The education director of eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday complained some lawmakers were interfering in his department’s affairs, creating problems for them.
Allah Dad Ismailzai and the education department’s spokesman, Mohammad Asif Shinwari, presenting the annual report of the education department, said some lawmakers and provincial council members were putting pressure on them to make appointments and transfers.
They alleged the public representatives were pressurising them into accepting their demands. They also complained about sending many persons with letters from the Education Ministry for a single post.
The two officials said the department rehabilitated and reconstructed buildings for many schools this year.
Shinwari acknowledged reports that the Taliban had proposed changes in the curriculum in Hesarak, Khogyani and Sara Rud districts.
He said the Taliban’s suggestions were not much different from what taught in the curriculum at schools, adding that the rebels had demanded replacement of some subjects.
Ismailzai claimed some schools had been constructed with government funds and assistance from NGOs. The official said 30 of 63 closed schools had been reopened in the Shinwari district. (Pajhwok)
