Working on Intelligence Plans to Combat Militants: Qahraman

LASHKARGAH - President’s special representative for Helmand security Abdul Jabbar Qahraman on Thursday said the ongoing insecurity in the southern province had intelligence dimension that needed to be tackled with intelligence plans.
Qahraman, a lower house member from Helmand, has been appointed as President Ashraf Ghani’s special envoy for security matters of Helmand through a presidential decree.
Qahraman told a news conference here that militants had access to a small number of resources but they had advanced rapidly. He said the militants benefitted from intelligence in capturing areas and advancing in Helmand.
“We are working on intelligence and coordination plans to fight militants because we can improve the security situation using intelligence techniques within meager resources,” he added.
He said they would also remove the gap between the government and the people by engaging tribal elders and influential individuals.
“I have shared all the problems of Helmand with the president and relevant organs, they have given me the right to resolve them,” Qahraman added, saying they had no problem carrying out air and ground operations that would continue until the rebels were eliminated.
He said some security personnel earlier forced into leaving jobs due to the weak leadership. The reward and punishment system would be implemented in Helmand soon for reforms in the Afghan forces, he added.
He assured the security situation in Helmand would be improved soon as Afghan forces would permanently subdue insurgents. (Pajhwok)
