KABUL - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Salahuddin Rabbani, on Wednesday officiated at a ceremony celebrating the 12th Anniversary of the Constitution of Afghanistan.

The event, held at the ministry, was attended by a number of dignitaries including Dr Naseer Ahmad Andisha, Deputy Foreign Minister for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Dr. Abubakar Mutaqi, member of the Commission on Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution; Gul Pacha Majeedi, Deputy Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Lower House of the Parliament (Wolesi Jirga); professors of Kabul university, directors and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Rabbani spoke on the importance of the constitution as a national document that guarantees the fundamental rights and freedom of all Afghan citizens, including freedom of speech and respect to human dignity.

He said: "This is the responsibility and obligation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exert all its efforts as the sole Afghanistan's diplomacy apparatus administrator to fully implement the provisions of the constitution, especially in the field of foreign policy and international relations."

Later, Mutaqi, a member of the Commission on Overseeing the Implementation of the Constitution, spoke on key indicators of the constitution that are unparalleled in the region.

Majeedi, deputy chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Wolesi Jirga said: "Three main elements of the rule of law such as law effectiveness, executive management of the law, and protection of the law have been incorporated in the constitution of Afghanistan. We have to create conducive conditions for the implementation of the constitution through deeper understanding of the Afghan society. Fortunately, the Afghan constitution provides the Afghan people with the opportunity to determine their fate."

In conclusion, Najeeb Aqa Fahim, Director of Law and Treaty Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave a presentation regarding the constitution. (Tolonews)
