KABUL - A number of MPs on Monday again raised their concerns over the security situation in the country and said the situation is deteriorating "day-by-day".
During Monday's Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) session, MPs called for immediate and urgent action to be taken.
One MP from northern Sar-e-Pul province, Sharifi Balkhabi said: "All roads into Sar-e-Pul's capital city are closed and the Balkhab district is surrounded [by insurgents]."
Musa Khan Nasrat, an MP from northern Farah province painted another bleak picture and said that "the government is very weak. People are openly selling guns and drugs at Friday's market in Khak-e-Safid district".
MPs also called for more military operations around the country.
The First Deputy Speaker of Wolesi Jirga, Zahir Qadeer said: "The eastern zone situation is very bad specially most of the districts of Nangarhar and they face Daesh threats. Once again I am calling on the government to launch operations in the areas where Daesh is present."
Another MP, from north-eastern Badakhshan province, Nazifa Zaki said: "Our military forces need to launch an operation in Dand-e-Ghori against the insurgents and government should move from a defensive position to a position of attack."
Rising concerns come after a marked increase in violence in the country compared to previous years. This fighting season has seen insurgents target government facilities and security posts in particular. They have also managed to take control of some districts in provinces around the country.
The MPs concerns come just a day after Resolute Support (RS) mission's commander Gen. John Campbell touched on the emergence of Daesh in Afghanistan and said that "the conditions do not support Daesh."
He assured the nation that the mission will not allow Daesh to spread across the country.
In addition, he praised the capability of Afghan forces and noted the young Afghan forces are well-trained and continue to improve.
Campbell pledged that the Afghan forces will soon be provided with more fixed-wing aircrafts to build their capability.
"What we do is to continue to provide our support to the Afghan security forces both the police and army in areas they continue to need development," he said. (Tolonews)
