No Place to Hide for Terrorists:Ash Carter

KABUL - U.S Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Tuesday there was no place in the world for terrorists to hide and that US troops in Afghanistan are trying to ensure the world and the U.S's security.

Speaking at a memorial service for five slain service members in Chattanooga, who died in a recent shootout in the U.S, Carter said Washington and its allies are intent on eliminating terrorists.

The U.S Defense Department said the increase in violence in Afghanistan, particularly the emergence of Daesh, has resulted in U.S troops staying longer.

Meanwhile, the US State Department says the presence of 10,000 American troops in Afghanistan is to help the Afghan government's bid to overcome security challenges.

"Obviously we are concerned about the violence in Afghanistan and in around Kabul certainly. That is a deep concern to us," the US State Department spokesperson John Kibry. But "we see that the Afghan National Security Forces are doing a good job responding to that violence."

He said the U.S supports President Ashraf Ghani's efforts to deal with the security challenges in the country and added that it was for this reason the coalition forces were in the country to assist with training. He said: " We have long said that the long term asset here is a reconciliation process that is Afghan-led and we welcome the first set of [peace] talks that occurred," he said. (Tolonews)
