Ministry: Draft of Mining Law to be Ready by Year-End

KABUL - The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum on Monday informed draft reform of mining law for better utilizing Afghanistan’s natural resources would be prepared and sent to parliament for approval.

Mohyaddin Noori, spokesman of the Ministry of Mines, told journalists in Kabul the draft law was being prepared to give legal basis for mining, technical reforms and capacity building for human resources.

The draft would be sent to parliament by end of the year, he noted, adding with the approval of the bill better facilities for using of the country’s mineral resources would be provided.

Noori added the ministry was also working on six other regulations and work procedures. “The mining law has been amended many times but there is no specific regulation for interpretation of the law.”

Last month, Mines Minister Daud Shah Sabah pledged reviewing of mines law, who asked experts to share their suggestions with his ministry.

According to Noori, the mineral areas that are under threat or being extracted illegally would be identified and a list sent to security organs.  (Pajhwok)
