KABUL - Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Adullah on Monday said the raid of foreign troops in central Parwan province on a house of former jihadi commander sparked serious concerns among people and Mujahidin community of the country.

He had taken up the issue with the president, defense minister, chief of army staff and some other officials about early morning raid by foreign forces.

Joint Afghan and foreign forces raided underground compound of former jihadi commander and destroyed huge arms cache in central Parwan province, a security official said.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Khan Mamozai, provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News foreign and local troops destroyed weapons depot of former commander Jan Ahmad early Monday morning.

Later, a brief gun battle erupted between the troops and armed supporters of the commander, he said, adding that residents remained unhurt during the operation.

Jan Ahmad is former Jamiat Islami commander. Ghulam Saeed, an eye witness, said armed supporters of Ahmad came out on main high way and blocked it for traffic. They held protest rally after joint foreign forces raid.

In a brief statement, the Resolute Support Mission said that U.S. Forces conducted an operation on June 29 in Charkar district, Parwan province, "in order to destroy a cache of munitions that could be used to conduct attacks against Afghans and Coalition Forces."

Khwaja Toryali, a protester, told Pajhwok Afghan News the blasts and destruction of weapons had spread fear among locals and that foreign troops did not inform local security forces about the operation.

He added that helicopters of coalition forces had damaged the crops of local people and demanded the government to inform locals before any such operation in the area. (Pajhwok)
