ANSF Casualties Rise by 75 % in 2015

KABUL - A report published by the Azadi Radio suggests that the casualties of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have risen by 75 percent in first six months of 2015.

Based on the report 60 % rise has been recorded due to the lack of lethal items and logistics, they have not been delivered on time to the security forces while in combat, as a result security forces lost lives or wounded in ambushes and landmine explosions.

The data received by Azadi Radio states that the remaining five percent have died or sustained injuries in fighting with militants, some clashes erupted after their check posts were attacked by insurgents.

The Ministry of Defense confirms the rise but claims that rebels have suffered way more casualties than security forces.

“Enemy carried out more attacks in North, South, East and West. To compare this year with the past, unfortunately, we had more casualties,” General Afzal Aman, Chief of Operations at the Defense Ministry has told Azadi Radio.

But General Aman says that security forces had more achievements this year in comparison with the past.

The report further states that Afghan security forces suffered the most casualties in Badakhshan, Kundoz, Ghazni, Ghor and Urozgan provinces in coordinated attacks and ambushes.

40 soldiers lost lives and a few others held hostages in militant attacks in Badakhshan province, 19 soldiers lost lives in Urozgan province when insurgents captured 12 security posts, 20 soldiers lost lives in clashes with militants in Kundoz province and four others in Ghazni province.

The media outlet has also quoted an unnamed soldier from Badakhshan province saying that 30 commandos have gone missing in recent days. He said there are rumors that 14 of them have been killed.

Afghan National Security forces were being assisted by NATO forces until the end of last year. But starting January they took full responsibility of the security and since then they have been conducting all military operations independently across the country. (KP)
