12 Ghazni Districts on the Verge of Collapes

GHAZNI CITY - Local members of High Peace Council (HPC) and residents feared 12 districts of southern Ghazni province are in danger of falling to Taliban.

Secretary HPC Khalilullah Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News on Tuesday that Taliban had more control in the province than the government and people were forced to obey militants’ orders.

“Fall of district simply means Taliban are in control of the district and at least 12 districts in Ghazni face looming threats of falling to Taliban any time. The government control has only confined to the center of the district,” he added.

“Taliban ordered to close schools for three days and all educational institutions had to remain close which proved that insurgents are in control,” he added.

Several main roads had been blocked since militants had planted mines which causing civilians’ casualties, he said, adding that Ajristan, Geero, Waghez, Gilan, Qarabagh, Rashidan and Ab Band districts were feared to go under Taliban control.

Abdul Hakim, a resident of Waghez, said the main road of the district had been closed for last one and half month and civilians had been killed every day in a fight between militants and security forces. The government writ was only confined to the district office, he noted.

Noorullah, another resident of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, said people had migrated to city due to worst law and order situation. Had the security situation remained the same, the district would fall to militants, he warned.

Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hakim Angar, provincial police chief, rejected all threats and said the situation was normal and called Hotak’s fear as his personal views. Heavy casualties had been inflicted on militants in several military operations, he claimed.  (Pajhwok)
