Ghani, Khattak Discuss Peace Process, Refugees

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani and Pervez Khattak, chief minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Wednesday held detailed deliberations on issues ranging from peace process to Afghan refugees’ repatriation.

The 27-memebr delegation headed by Khattak arrived on Tuesday. A statement from the Presidential Palace said that Khattak held meeting with the president and both the dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interests.

Latest development between the two countries, regional situation, peace process and issue of Afghan refugees’ in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were discussed in the meeting, the statement added.

Separately, the Pakistani delegation met former president Hamid Karzai, a statement from Karzai’s office said. Karzai and Khattak specifically talked on peace issues on both the sides of Durand Line.

During the meeting, both the dignitaries voiced optimism that Pakistan and Afghanistan could ensure peace in both countries by joining hands against current challenges.

Karzai, the statement said had expressed serious reservations over the killings of tribal elders, women and children on daily basis on both the sides of Durand Line.

“Military action and fighting won’t resolve problems but give birth to distrust between the two governments and people,” Karzai concluded. (Pajhwok)
