KABUL - US and NATO forces top commander in Kabul Gen. John Campbell on Monday said the United States would work jointly with Afghanistan to counter possible threats posed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) and other militant groups.

The US general, who called on Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah at his office, briefed the CEO about his last visit to the US and subjects he had discussed with US officials concerning Afghanistan, a statement from the CEO’s office said.

Campbell said he had discussed with high US officials potential threats to Afghanistan’s security and peace and informed them about the ground situation in the country.

He said US officials were attentive to possible threats posed by the IS and other groups and his country would work with Afghanistan in dealing with the threats.

Referring to the natural disaster that claimed hundreds of lives in central Panjsher province, the NATO commander said they were ready to assist long-term rebuilding of damaged areas.
