Foreign, Finance Ministries Prepare Agenda for London Summit

KABUL - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Monday said it would be coordinating with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in crafting the agenda for the upcoming London Summit, adding that good governance, security and expansion of Afghanistan's ties with the international community would be among the main focuses.

The summit is scheduled to start on December 3 and has been called a critical opportunity for the new national unity government to attract further investment and support from the international community.

"Since formation of the national unity government, our achievements have been good in various spheres - good governance, human rights and other issues,"

MoFA deputy spokesman Sirajul Haq Siraj said. "On November 27th, we will have a meeting in the ministry of foreign affairs with ambassadors from donor, funding and supporting countries..."

MoF officials declined to comment on preparations for the summit on Monday.

Meanwhile, economists have said the London Summit will be essential for revitalizing trust between Afghanistan and its international partners after the damage cause by the Hamid Karzai administration in its final months.

"I hope that the government, by offering new programs, attracts more economic aid or proves the use of previous aid and shows that the money will not be useless and that the aid will be put to the right direction," economic analyst Syed Massoud said.
