No Odds with President Ghani on Reforms: Abdullah

KABUL - The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government, Abdullah Abdullah, reiterated that there is no discordance between him and President Ashraf Ghani on bringing widespread reforms in the system.

In a meeting on Sunday with elders from northern Panjshir province, Abdullah urged that he and Ghani would practice their commitments they made in the national unity agreement.

“I would like to assure that I and President Ghani are committed in bringing fundamental reforms in the government and the articles of the national unity government agreement will be implemented,” Abdullah said. These statements are expressed as the government is yet to introduce the new cabinet. The deadline set by Ghani—to form the new cabinet in first 45 days of office—is approaching quickly—end of the week—but there is no sign of progress.

According to the political analysts, the government may not be able to form the cabinet in the given deadline as Ghani and Abdullah are still looking for qualified figures to be appointed as ministers.

But lawmaker Fakoor Beheshti, told TOLOnews that “what we know so far is that there is a big difference between the President and CEO on the appointments of the new cabinet members.”

Although, a fifty-fifty partnership in the national unity government was agreed on by both Ghani and Abdullah, analysts believe that the president and chief executive are eyeing more shares in the cabinet and other high government slots.

Many believe that the unity government may lose the people’s trust by delaying the formation of the cabinet. (Tolonews)
