Events in Afghanistan Should Not Affect Stability in Central Asia: Turkish President

BISHKEK - The events in Afghanistan should not affect stability in Central Asia, Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said at the joint press conference following the bilateral talks with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov in Ashgabat.

“Possible events in Afghanistan, Middle East should not affect stability in Central Asia. The international community should address the problems faced by Afghanistan,” the president’s press service cited Erdogan as saying.

Afghanistan has achieved a significant progress over the last 13 years with support of the international community, President Erdogan said.

“Work in transport and energy spheres makes our relations with Turkmenistan more strategic. It is important that potential expectations are met,” Erdogan stated.

Turkish companies carried out projects in Turkmenistan for $42 billion, he added. “This is a serious contribution into development of Turkmenistan,” Erdogan emphasized.

“The Caspian Sea is important from perspective of international markets. In our discussions with Turkmenistan we reiterated our common vision of transportation of gas to the European markets. We find development of regional cooperation very important here,” the Turkish President stated. (AKIpress)
