People’s Vote in Hostage Unacceptable: Ghani’s Team

KABUL - The electoral team of Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has said that the votes of people in hostage is not acceptable, insisting that the election process is the only legitimate option for the transfer of power as millions of people went to cast their votes for a democratic Afghanistan.

Sarwar Danish who is running as the second vice president to Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai said the electoral teams should not attempt to prevent the election process to conclude.

He was speaking during a gathering to commemorate the Martyrs Week in capital Kabul.

According to Danish, there are rumors suggesting that the election process should be overruled and boycotted and millions of votes of people should be ignored.

Mr. Danish did not disclose further information regarding the boycott of the election process and that who was involved behind such suggestions.

However, Dr. Abdullah’s team earlier said that they will not accept the outcome of the election, alleging that massive fraud has taken place during the runoff president election.

The US ambassador to Afghanistan has also urged the Afghan leaders must have faith in millions of votes cast by Afghan people who defied Taliban threats to vote for a democratic Afghanistan.

The deadlock over the presidential election of Afghanistan remains persistent as the two candidates have failed to form a unity government so far.

This comes as both Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai agreed to abide by the outcome of the comprehensive vote audit and form a unity government during US Secretary of State John Kerry’s visits to Afghanistan.

However, no breakthrough has been seen to conclude the electoral process despite the UN-supervised comprehensive vote audit concluded a week and the technical process of the audit is expected to be completed by tomorrow. (KP)
