83 pc Votes Audited: IEC

KABUL - A total of 19,047 ballot boxes or 83 percent ballots cast during the June presidential runoff elections were audited as of Saturday evening, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced on Sunday.

IEC spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor told reporters in Kabul that the audit and recount of the remaining 3,781 ballot boxes would be completed as soon as possible.

The vote audit process has been underway in presence of IEC officials, 104 UN observers, 216 national and 207 international observers, he said.

At least 107 groups have been tasked with carrying out the audit, he said, adding that the strength of groups involved in the audit could be increased to 140 if the UN surged the number of observes.

He hinted at finalising the results from 5,000 polling stations today. The IEC would dispatch the final results to the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) for investigation of complaints.

The campaigns have 24 hours to register their complaints against IEC decisions.  (Pajhwok)
