Govt. Representative to Attend Wales Summit: MoFA

KABUL - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday said the government would send someone as its representative to next week’s NATO summit in the UK if final result from the presidential runoff election was not released in a couple of days.

MoFA spokesman Ahmad Shekib Mustagni told Pajhwok Afghan News the new Afghan president would hopefully attend the important NATO conference on September 4 and 5 in Wales.

However, in case of further delay in announcing the election result, Mustaghni said the government was compelled to send its own representative to the vital conference, which would discuss future aid and international assistance to Afghanistan.

President Karzai’s deputy spokesperson Adala Raz said it was not clear as yet who would represent Afghanistan at the Wales conference, but she made it clear that President Karzai would not attend the conference.

Earlier, President Hamid Karzai has stressed early announcement of result from the June 14 election, saying the next president should attend the Wales summit. (Pajhwok)
